    2nd Annual Tax summit report, 2016

    The Kenya Revenue Authority convened the 2nd Annual Tax Summit at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre on October 17th-19th, 2016. This was the second Annual Tax Summit – the inaugural one having been held in 2015. The Summit was attended by senior government officials, global tax experts and practitioners, academia, members of the Private Sector and the citizenry. The theme of the 2nd Annual Tax Summit was “Kenyan Solutions to Kenya’s Challenges – Taxation as a catalyst for Economic Development”. The Summit was structured around three thematic areas namely: tax administration; tax culture; and, tax base enhancement. The overall objective of the Summit was to deliberate on the possible solutions to Kenya’s tax challenges. The sessions at the Summit incorporated presentation of academic papers and showcasing of technological innovations on tax administration, plenary deliberations, key note addresses and a public lecture. There was also the launch of KESRA Strategic Plan. The central focus of the Summit was improving tax administration processes by identifying, implementing and adopting strategic tax innovations drawing from KRA‟s internal and external stakeholders. The Summit reflected on various activities, reforms and initiatives undertaken by KRA towards meeting the needs of taxpayers and addressing specific challenges facing tax administration in Kenya. It was acknowledged that there is a need to continuously improve and enhance tax administration and make it more efficient to realize the overall objective of increasing the rate of compliance and hence, generate more resources. Improving tax administration was critical to funding the country’s key development programs including Vision 2030 Projects.

    3rd Annual Tax Summit Report 2017

    This report is based on the 3rd Annual Tax Summit, which was organized by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in collaboration with the International Tax and Investment Center (ITIC) on 29th November to 1st December 2017 at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. The Summit was officiated by Dr. Geoffrey Mwau, Director General, Budget, Fiscal & Economic Affairs, on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury; Dr. Edward Sambili, Chairman, KRA Board of Directors; Mr. John Njiraini, the Commissioner General, KRA; Mr. Daniel Witt, the President of ITIC; and Mr. Winfred Musau, Managing Director, National Bank of Kenya.

    4th Annual Tax Summit Highlights 2018 : How Tax Base Expansion is Key to the Big 4 Agenda

    The 7th Annual Tax Summit Report 2021: Redefining the Taxation Landscape: Global Trends, Developments & Impact

    This Report contains highlights, discussions and recommendations from the 7th Annual Tax Summit convened by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on the 13th and 14th October 2021. The Summit, themed “Redefining the Taxation and Landscape: Global Trends, Developments and Impact” highlighted tax administration challenges, experiences and prospects and their implications for Kenya and other developing countries, especially in Africa. The report commences focus on Kenya’s perspectives on the international taxation debate around the OECD Inclusive Framework and its impact on Tax Administration in the developing countries. It expresses Kenya’s bold concerns around the two-pillar solution to taxation of the digital economy and proposes key recommendations for progressing international taxation in an integrative way that protects revenue bases of developing countries. The purpose of the Summit was to bring together actors from various Tax Administrations, as well as other key stakeholders (private sector, policy experts, think tanks, academia, media, and civil society) to deliberate on solutions to various policy, institutional, legal, and administrative challenges facing tax administrations in Africa. The Summit was also a public participation platform aimed at enhancing discussions with stakeholders and providing feedback on the status of implementation of interventions, solutions, and ideas to resolve challenges and improve tax and customs administration practice. The objectives of the Tax Summit were: i. To improve African tax systems by sharing ideas, innovations and strategies successfully implemented in other jurisdictions. ii. To enhance the capacity of tax officials on the continent by interactions through networking, knowledge exchange and collaboration. iii. To create a platform for tax policymakers and tax administration officials on the continent to collaborate on improving tax policy decisions that will positively enhance Domestic Revenue mobilisation. iv. To establish a continental cooperative framework for addressing tax challenges and pursue more taxing rights for African countries, including taxing of the digital economy and BEPS.

    The 8th Annual Tax Summit Report 2022: Now & Beyond: Enhanced Service Delivery to Improve Tax Compliance

The Summit is also a public participation platform aimed at enhancing discussions with stakeholders and providing feedback on the status of implementation of interventions, solutions and ideas to resolve challenges and improve tax and customs administration practice.
