Abstract
Establishment of efficient and effective international trade system like the single window increases economic opportunities and improve livelihoods. This study sought to investigate the role of single window system on trade facilitation at the export processing zone, Athi River, Kenya. The specific objectives of the study are: To determine the role of availability of information on duties and tariffs on trade facilitation at the Export Processing Zone, Athi River, Kenya; to establish the role of sharing information with all trade parties on trade facilitation at the Export Processing Zone, Athi River, Kenya; to establish the role of standardization of information and documents on trade at the Export Processing Zone, Athi River, Kenya; and to determine the role of accuracy of information on trade costs on trade facilitation at the Export Processing Zone, Athi River, Kenya. Three theories guided this study namely; Adaptive Market Efficiency Theory, Diffusion of Innovation Theory and Trust Behaviour Theory. The study adopted descriptive research design. Questionnaires were used for primary data collection. Data was entered in SPSS for coding. Descriptive statistics was used to analyse the data. The study revealed that availability of information, sharing of information, standardization and accuracy of information have a positive and significant role in trade facilitation. The study recommended that Kenyan government ought to compel all government agencies to follow the National Single Window System uptake and execution to realize the benefits of automation.
